Laila Irigoyen is currently a junior at Ripon High. She is an involved and passionate student-athlete with lots to come! This year, Laila is focusing on herself and finding what she loves. She plans to spread school spirit along with her kindness. Building relationships with her peers and getting to know her classmates is extremely important to Laila.
One way she does this is through extracurriculars. Laila is the United President, Micro-Biology Treasurer, Scrubs Club Secretary, Multicultural Club Officer, Science Olympiad Officer, and a proud member of Bug Club and Girls League. It doesn’t stop there, however. She is also a three time varsity track and cross country athlete. This year, Laila is Ripon High’s Rally Commissioner and loves every minute of it. Laila’s involvement has also won her a collection of awards and titles: Scholar Athlete, Rookie of the Year, Academic Prep, Tribe Award, League Champion in the 400, 800, 1600, and 4x4, and Gold Dust Female Athlete of the Meet. She works hard in the off season and focuses on retaining her 4.0+GPA.
Laila is also very involved in her community and uses her involvement in it to share her passions with others. She volunteers as a Nursery Aide every other Sunday at her church and in hair/makeup for Night to Shine, a prom for people with disabilities. Laila’s faith is her purpose and who she is. It is more than a religion to her and she has promised to pursue Him the same way His love has pursued her. In the future, Laila hopes to attend a university on an academic or athletic scholarship. University of Tennessee is Laila’s dream school but knows God will lead her where she can best serve Him.
Laila believes she still has a lot to learn but doesn’t mind growing from the lessons. High school is already half way through and Laila has learned so much from the people and experiences that Ripon has provided her with. Her internship with Assemblymen Heath Flora provided her with a lot of insight on the political world and gave her much needed experience. The connections she built and knowledge gained will help her in her future career, whatever it may be. When Laila gets older she would love to have a family and be a mom. She loves kids and has already pursued her maternal instincts with volunteering as a Nursery Aide.
Although she might not know what she wants to major in or what her future has in store, she knows who she is. And, to her, that is what is most important. Laila has accomplished much for her age and is fortunate enough to have people in her life that support them. Her big dreams and goals will take her far. She is excited to see what God and the future have in store for her.
