AUGUST ASB REPORT
ASB Formal Meeting Report
Name: Laila Irigoyen
Position: Rally Commissioner
Date: September 5, 2019
Position Assessment:
I am so excited and absolutely love my position in Leadership. Coming into highschool, I never would’ve seen myself doing this. Royce and I’s first rally went really well together and Natalie did the majority of the work. I have no clue how she did that and I’m glad she was happy with how it went. Things definitely could have gone better, but there’s always going to be room for improvement. I am SO happy to not do spirit counts anymore and I had so much fun with Royce. The rally was low key a workout because I even broke a sweat.
Standing Committee:
I’m apart of the Sports Relations committee. We just the Fall Sports rally and I think we did a pretty good job of including all the sports. There’s usually an emphasis on football and I liked how this rally didn’t have that. The seniors had their moment but the junior athletes were involved too. We also just had Renaissance sign ups which I definitely signed up for. The second quarter Finals Pass would be a life saver. It’s so helpful, especially with how busy I get during sports.
Special Committee:
I am apart of the Kyoto/Cultural Exchange Rally committee and I can not wait for them to visit. We were actually supposed to host this year but my parents kept pushing it off. Once they finally agreed none of the girls were left and they didn’t feel comfortable hosting boys. Maybe next year! The past rallies have been so much fun and so exciting, I know it’s going to be a blast. I’m also apart of the Black Light Rally but I feel that’s been discussed too much already. Working with Natalie on the scripts and stuff was really helpful and I can hopefully use my little experience to help next year. We had our BTS BBQ too. There weren’t any problems that I’m aware of, but I couldn’t even eat the food because I had a cross country meet.
Concerns:
My only concern is Homecoming. I’m absolutely not ready for the CHAOS that is Homecoming week. It’s so much fun and I made so many memories last year but I lost so much sleep. Dr. Pepper and Swedish Fish will forever remind me of Homecoming but the memories are so worth it.
Positive Comment:
NATALIE! She did so good on the rally and didn’t complain a bit. Kass and Kate prepared really well for the BBQ. Everyone’s been really positive so far and it’s been pretty smooth sailing (for the time being).
One Change:
I have no complaints. One thing I’d like to “change” would be how close our class is, but we’re still pretty close. And how can we solve this issue you ask? A Leadership lockdown. It’s the only solution. But after Homecoming because we’d probably all kill each other if we had a lockdown during it. I feel so comfortable with our class and I genuinely feel like Leadership is my second family.
My Impact:
I think my impact has and will be “being there.” Over the summer I just focused on being the friend that I wanted to have in my life and it brought me a lot closer with Ana. We were vulnerable with each other and randomly checked in to see how the other person was doing. I’ve talked to Carmen about her friendships and Malery about life. I just want people to feel like they’ll always have a friend in me. One week about five of my friends all cried to me about how upset they were and I posted on instagram “If it doesn't make God’s heart happy, why do you think it will fulfill hours? Tears are prayers too. They travel to God when we can’t speak.” I had so many people tell me that it touched them and THATS what I want. Social media can be so beneficial if people use it to boost each other up instead of tearing one another down.
